The Office of Governmental Relations establishes HACU's presence on Capitol Hill by influencing legislative policy, enhancing resources for Hispanics and Hispanic-Serving Institutions. Important issues such as the changing nature of financial aid are decided by policy makers and legislators. By educating these decision makers on the concerns of the Hispanic populations, HACU has been able to expand the availability of grants, research, scholarships, contracts and program support opportunities for our member institutions.
Though 1996 was a challenging legislative year, effective advocacy conducted by HACU and our member institutions was rewarded by congressional initiatives.
